Valentine's Fundraising Dinner

Saturday Februrary 4, 2012

Our first ever Fundraiser Dinner was a great success, with friends old and new joining us for a delicious meal of roast beef or salmon with all the fixin's.  Light music provided a pleasant background to lots of chatter and visiting while young & old seemed to enjoy the decorations, prize displays and freebies.

This dinner could not have happened without the dedication of all our friends who promoted the event, sold tickets and gathered decorations, discounts & donations.  Our caterer Hans LeJeune cooked a wonderful meal and the Knights of Columbus kept our guests well fed and the tables  bussed.  Thanks as well goes to ladies of the Legion and all the Legion Staff for all their extra work.

We're also very grateful for the generous prize donations for our 'His & Her's Raffle' (photo above)  The happy winners were:

Joan Jarvis - Cassiopeia Jewelry Set

Laura Mather - Cordless Drill, Charie Donaldson

Reeta Sweeney - McNeill's Shell Car Washes

Unice Fizzard - Catering Unlimited Gourmet Tea Set

Beth McNeil - Bitar's Restaurant & Grill Gift Card

Veronica Zentilli - Main Town Pizza Gift Certificate

The Enfield Legion was transformed into a red, white and pink Valentine's vista. Thanks to our many sponsors every table was daintily dressed. Local MLA John MacDonell helps Bernice Donaldson draw for Raffle prizes.
Video clips - please allow time to load...
Before - Volunteers and & staff took a short pause after prepping the hall just as the first diners arrived... During - our Knights of Columbus servers were kept hopping as the hall rapidly became bustling with hungry guests...

Mrs. J recognized by local business leaders - Wednesday March 21, The East Hants & Districts Chamber of Commerce held it's Annual General Meeting & Business Awards Banquet at the Milford Recreation Centre.  Among other local over-achievers, our own Mrs. J was honoured and singled out for her tireless work with Food Bank and other community service, with the prestigious Tom Parker Chamber Member of the Year Award for 2012.

Her remarks acknowledging the award, delivered in her own unmistakable style, were greeted with a standing ovation by the many business owners and leaders.

Food Packing 2012 -

It all comes down the basics of life...

The most important time of the C&S year is preparing the 'Christmas Boxes' for the many individuals, families & seniors who need a little seasonal help at this hectic time of year.  This is when we most appreciate our volunteers, of all ages & walks of life, who give a few hours of their time to make sure their neighbours have a joyous Holiday.  The ground floor of the Enfield Legion is converted into a temporary grocery store, at the height of the busy Christmas season.  Click on the video to catch a glimpse of the hustle & bustle...

We know we do not live on bread alone, so C&S tops up food boxes with Health & Beauty products, small toys or kids PJs.
This year local youth volunteers were very much in evidence packing & carrying; we especially want to thank our Men's Senior Soccer Team and the East Hants Penquins for pitching in.  Packing goes faster...
with a partner... with a parent... with a Team!
Penquin with Packing List - Volunteer pauses to allow for 'checking it twice' as local hockey player helps out. Kings-Hants Liberal MP Scott Brison gets some notes on Food Bank from Treasurer Bernice Donaldson. Hants-East Liberal Candidate Margaret Miller joins the Hon Scott Brison in 'pitchin' in' to fill our Christmas boxes.
